Starting point
Where the project started.
Art by Sue needed a logo as personal as the paintings themselves. The artist’s own signature, in blue pen on paper, served as the starting point.
Challenge
What needed solving.
- A spontaneous signature is not a logo: lines too thin, proportions random
- The logo has to work small on labels and large on canvas
- The character of the handwriting must not be lost
Solution
What we built.
Line redrawn
The sweep of the S and the "ue" were kept, the line was made stronger and tapers to a fine point at the end, like a brushstroke.
Matching type
"ART BY" in a calm capital letter typeface that follows the curve of the S.
For every use
Black on white as the main version, plus variants for dark backgrounds and as a stamp for the backs of paintings.
Impressions
From draft to result

Result
What changed.
- A signature logo that belongs unmistakably to the artist
- Legible from the label to the gallery wall
